Russia. Ruble, 1704. Diakov-p.69,9; Sev-152; Uzd-0464. This first ruble of Peter I is struck over a 1655 Jefimok (Rarity-4) and shows very clear remnants of the obverse counterstamps. The original host coin is a taler of Austria of uncertain type, though with time spent in careful examination, this too may be determined. The only other specimen of overstriking on a Jefimok is shown on Spassky (The Hermitage Specimen), but this specimen is better. Extremely rare and desirable.
Estimated Value $15,000 - 20,000.
