Rare, Mint, Project Mercury Standard-Time and Date Pocket Chart Made by S.C Hight of Bell Telephone Laboratories, Inc. 1960. A most unusual find in Clark McClelland's possessions is this pocket sized Project Mercury Standard-Time and Date Chart. Created and distributed by Bell Telephone Laboratories, the Earth is laid out in a polar azimuthal projection which projects the Earth onto a flat surface modified to 360 degrees in 180 degrees. The purpose was for tracking of Mercury capsules during orbital flights evident by the 14 tracking stations noted: Cape Canaveral, Corpus Christi,TX, White Sands NM, Pt. Arguello, CA, Kaui, HA, Canton Island, Woomera Australia, Perth Australia, Indian Ocean Ship, Zanzibar, Kano Nigeria Canary Islands, Mid-Atlantic Ship and Bermuda. Spinning the center dial to any station, read time and date at any other, those stations at right of MIDNIGHT are the calendar day more advanced than others.
