DISNEYANA: "The Mickey Mouse Club" Carl Patrick "Cubby" O'Brien Original Mouseketeer Jacket from 1955-1958, Bow-Tie and Photo. The Mickey Mouse Club was a phenomenon of daytime television geared to families with kids. It was basically a variety show with Mickey Mouse cartoons originally seen in theatrical releases, and employed a platoon of Mousketeers (young teens and kids) whose personalities and song and dance productions helped solidify an enormous fan base.
The most famous of course was Annette Funicello who was 12 when the series began. But for second most popular, no doubt was Carl Patrick "Cubby" O'Brien who went by the name Cubby. Though he had little prior singing or dancing experience, O'Brien was placed on The Mickey Mouse Club's first-string "Red Team" right from the start. His appeal was his solo drum performances cementing his hero status on the show. What is great is Cubby went on to have an admirable career as a studio musician and in bands/orchestras of several television variety shows including Carol Burnett. He then toured with The Carpenters and other performers never slowing down and helped with LA produced Broadway shows and remains active today at 79
Likely from his first years as a Mouseketeer given the size, that jacket has a heraldic shield shaped patch with Mickey Mouse and Cubby's name on a banner sewn atop the right hand pocket. Inside one of the lower coat pockets was a clip-on tie enhanced with two embroidered designs with the tie itself having a pink ribbon at center of tie, hand stitched to remain in place. Inside jacket is is an thin iron-on tag that reads FLF 57.
Jacket is made of premium wool fabric and cut with no collar which proves a nice bit of tailoring. It is fully lined and with silver buttons all present. Coat has been stored carefully with no issues whatsoever. A premium costume from a significant series that captured the imagination of a generation of children and young teens. It would also prove a treasure to any Disneyana collector or collection.
