Charles Cornwallis: Autographed Letter Signed Dated Paris 1801 (1738-1805) Charles Cornwallis, 1st Marquess Cornwallis is best known as one of the leading British officers during the War of Independence whose surrender at the siege of Yorktown in 1781 brought an end to the Revolutionary War. Autographed letter signed on laid paper 9.75 x 7.5 folded, written just a few months after resigning as Commander of Royal Forces in Ireland and his eyes toward returning as Governor of India. He writes being extremely satisfied with forming a plan for expenses in India, constant occupation and engagement and selection of personnel.
