Thomas Gray: Celebrated English Poet and Historian. Painstaking Inventory or Roster Completely in his Hand (1716-1771) Acclaimed English poet who published about one dozen of his works, but his "Elegy Written in a Country Churchyard" proved a literary sensation, and very much celebrated with many phrases he coined in modern English lexicon; "kindred spirit" "celestial fire" "paths of glory". Offered is a fragile, single page sheet written on the obverse and reverse completely in Thomas Gray's handwriting (no signature). It appears he is cataloguing tombstones given that there are names and dates ranging from 13th to 16th centuries with a few descriptions of heraldry. Manuscript is fragile but a sliver of archival tape stabilized a tear however the center has a puncture and has been left alone 9 x 7.5". Estimated Value $300 - 600
