The first two, Braxton Bragg (1817-1876) and J.E. Johnston (1807-1891) were both military officers during the Second Seminole War, The Mexican American War and Confederate Generals in the Civil War.
Bragg is considered by many historians as the worst general of the Civil War, his intolerable behavior coupled with his incompetence on the battlefield clearly led to the South's overall defeat. ALS is dated 1847 which puts it squarely during the Mexican American War. Letter is war related with regards to fulfilling his requisitions. Bragg closes "Very Respectfully Yours Braxton Bragg"
J.E. Johnston responds to a letter from General Cadmus M Wilcox in September of 1885 his opinions on the CS Military Academy which was closed at end of Civil War whether has been reorganized. He mentions it produced many excellent officers.
Also included is an ALS by Jubal Early on the longest stationery in this auction 14.24 x 4." to former Governor John Letcher of Virginia expressing relief and wishes for a strong recovery from illness and a card signed by James Longstreet.
