General William Tecumseh Sherman: Cut Signature and Brigadier General Irwin McDowell (1820 -1891) One of the most significant Union Generals in the Civil War studied today for his leadership and strategy and in hindsight for his scorched earth tactics. Offered is a cut signature 1 x 3" in fine condition and a vintage original litho lifted from a book on illustrating 9 Union Generals. Also included is Brigadier General Irwin McDowell on Headquarters Division of the South letterhead, Louisville, Ky. Oct. 22nd 1873 signed "Very Respectfully, Your obedient Servant, Irwin McDowell, Major General Command S. Division. Irwin's military record especially at Bull Run is checkered, but he was rewarded nevertheless a full career until retirement. Also included is an engraving of the general.
