Property from Cantor Yossel Rosenblatt (1882-1933): Kiddush Cup, Signed Album, and Presentation Photo. Group of Four Items. A compelling group of Judaica and personal ephemera associated with Yossel (Joseph) Rosenblatt, widely regarded as the most celebrated cantor of the early 20th century and a foundational figure in recorded Jewish liturgical music.
The lot includes a silver Kiddush cup, engraved with Jewish decorative motifs and traditional form, reportedly dedicated to Rosenblatt, standing on a stepped foot with engraved Star of David panels and floral ornamentation. Accompanied by a framed silver presentation photograph featuring an oval portrait of a woman, mounted within an elaborately embossed silver frame decorated with birds, floral panels, and Hebrew inscriptions, the lower plaque reading "My Fiftieth Birthday," indicating a commemorative gift, identified as dedicated to Rosenblatt's wife.
Also included is a signed album, The Golden Voices of Israel on Victor Records, featuring Rosenblatt prominently at the center of a Star of David design, surrounded by noted cantors of the era. The album bears handwritten inscriptions in Hebrew, attributed to Rosenblatt, visible on the cover. The album is a key artifact from the golden age of Jewish cantorial recordings and reflects Rosenblatt's central role in bringing synagogue music to international audiences through early commercial records.
Completing the group is a decorative pointer (yad) with a turned handle and silver elements, consistent with early 20th-century synagogue use.
Rosenblatt's influence extended beyond the synagogue; his recordings for Victor Records introduced traditional cantorial music to a global audience, and his voice was internationally acclaimed for its range, emotional power, and technical mastery. Material directly associated with him is scarce, particularly items of a personal or presentation nature.
Mixed condition throughout. Album shows surface wear, discoloration, and handling marks; silver elements exhibit expected tarnish and wear consistent with age; framing and mounts with wear. All items sold together as a single lot.
