19th-Century Rachel's Tomb Memorial Box. A 19th-century devotional container commemorating the traditional burial site of the Biblical matriarch Rachel near Bethlehem. The elongated rectangular box is of carved wood with a patterned surface, fitted with inlaid bone bands and an oval inset panel to the lid depicting Kever Rachel (Rachel's Tomb) beneath a tree within a stone enclosure. The scene is labeled in Hebrew as "Kever Rachel" or "Rachel's Tomb". The box opens on hinges to reveal a plain wooden interior. Some surface wear, age toning, and handling marks consistent with age.
