Jewish "Prayer for Rain" Decorative Wall Plaque, c. 1950. Decorative mid-20th century Jewish synagogue or home devotional plaque featuring the Hebrew inscription translating to "He causes the wind to blow and the rain to fall", a central liturgical phrase from the Amidah prayer recited during the rainy season in Jewish tradition. The plaque is housed in a frame covered with a metallic fabric and inset with colorful glass and semi-precious stone-style cabochons and beadwork accents. The prayer is set behind glass, with the interior image featuring a small illustration of the Tablets of the Law above the text. The reverse is lined with period floral paper backing and fitted with a hanging loop. There is some loss and shifting to decorative insets, clouding to interior panel, and lifting, losses, and staining to floral paper backing.
