Zohar with Clasps, Altona (Altuna), 1763. An early printed edition of the Zohar, the foundational text of Jewish mysticism, published in Altona (Altuna), 1763, housed in its original leather binding with surviving metal clasps.
The volume retains its contemporary leather covers, decorated in geometric tooling, with visible wear, darkened patina, and edge loss consistent with age and prolonged use. The spine bears a period manuscript title label in Hebrew identifying the contents simply as "Zohar." Internally, the Hebrew text is printed in dense rabbinic type characteristic of 18th-century kabbalistic editions, with scattered manuscript annotations and evidence of historical handling.
A notable feature is the surviving stamp on an interior leaves reading:
"Dr. S. Poper, Rabbiner der Synagogen-Gemeinde zu Czernikau" (Rabbi of the Synagogue Community of Czernikau)
This stamp documents the book's provenance within Central European Jewish scholarly circles and situates the volume among the working libraries of 19th-century rabbinic leadership.
Dimensions: approx. 12.5 × 8 × 2".
Estimated Value $200 - 300
