Dutch Bible with Ornate Metal Clasps, Amsterdam & Haarlem, 1878. A late 19th-century Dutch Bible printed for the Nederlandsche Bijbel-Compagnie, with imprints for J. Brandt en Zoon (Amsterdam) and Johannes Enschedé en Zoonen (Haarlem), dated 1878. Bound in dark pebbled leather over boards, the volume retains its pair of elaborately engraved original metal clasps with stylized foliate and classical ornament, secured with period hardware.
The title page reads Biblia, dat is de gantsche Heylige Schrifture…, comprising the complete Old and New Testaments. Interior pages feature period Dutch typography, a printed register, and woodcut embellishments; an opening to Genesis is present. The paper shows expected toning and scattered foxing consistent with age and use.
Condition is commensurate with long devotional handling: the binding remains structurally intact but displays notable wear including surface loss, edge rubbing, softening to the leather, and areas of abrasion. Both clasps remain present and functional.
Dimensions: approx. 6 x 3.5 x 2.5".
