Israeli Silver Torah Shield (Tas), mid–20th century in Heavy Silver Plate. A large and visually dramatic silver Torah shield executed in repoussé and pierced work, centered by a mounted miniature Torah scroll motif within an arched cartouche. The field is densely ornamented with scrolling foliage, floral forms, and elaborate openwork, enriched with cherub or angelic figures flanking the Torah.
At the top is a silver bird standing on a sphere, suspended beneath the original hanging chain. The lower edge is fitted with two hanging bells, completing the traditional presentation. The elaborate composition blends synagogue iconography with strong European decorative influence, characteristic of Israeli Judaica in the mid 20th Century
The shield exhibits light to moderate surface wear, scattered scratches, small dents, and areas of softening to the relief consistent with age, handling, and use.
