Large Moroccan Silver Mezuzah Cover, Inscribed for Rachel Adari. Large and finely worked Moroccan silver mezuzah cover, 19th century, of shield-form with elaborate openwork floral and foliate filigree over a velvet-backed ground. The upper plaque is pierced with Hebrew inscription. The upper line reads "Shaddai," one of the traditional Names of God commonly found on mezuzah cases. The lower line reads "Rachel Adra'i," a personal name identifying the original owner or dedicatee.
The piece is suspended from an original circular hanging ring and displays traditional North African Jewish silversmithing with densely worked pierce-work, and hand-chased detailing. The reverse retains its original velvet lining, indicating it once enclosed the parchment scroll (not present).
Condition shows age-appropriate wear including softening of detail, surface patina, and velvet degradation consistent with 19th-century origin. The silver remains structurally intact with no visible breaks to the filigree.
Dimensions: approx. 9.75 x 6.25".
