1795 C-5b R4 Thick Planchet VG10. Five points sharper. The surfaces are decent but not perfectly smooth under magnification, and there is a shallow planchet void that contains slag impurities slanting through the right side of the wreath (as struck). No notable signs of contact. Slightly glossy dark olive brown with lighter chocolate brown toning covering the devices. The date is weakly struck (as usual on the thick planchet version) but it remains readable, and the legends are complete except for the usual weakness inside the wreath caused by the die failure. Struck on a thick planchet that weighs 114.2 grains versus the thin planchet standard of 84.0 grains. These planchets were cut down from spoiled large cents or large cent planchet stock.
Estimated Value $400-UP.
