1795 C-6a R2 Without Pole G5. Struck over a 1794 TAL Cent with TAL Cent edge letters showing. Sharpness F12 but covered with light to moderate corrosion. No marks or verdigris. Rather glossy dark olive and steel. The date and legends remain complete and readable in spite of the roughness. Struck over a 1794 TAL Cent. The half cent planchet was cut out of the TAL a bit too close to the edge. This left part of the TAL Cent edge lettering on an out-of-round half cent planchet. A 1794 TAL Cent has edge lettering that reads "PAYABLE AT THE STORE OF" followed buy a few ornamental designs. This half cent has "OF" and one of the ornaments clearly visible on the edge above LIB and the cap. While it is relatively common to find TAL undertype on half cents of this variety, it is extremely rare to find one with some of the TAL Cent edge lettering. Weight 83.0 grains.
Estimated Value $250-UP.
