1652 Massachusetts Pine Tree 6 Pence Noe-33 Rarity-3 Fine-15. Slightly sharper but cleaned with microscopic granularity covering the protected areas on both sides. In addition there is some light tooling under the M left of the base of the Pine Tree and similar tooling to strengthen the devices at the base of the second N in ENGLAND. Perhaps this piece was holed and repaired since these tooled areas are exactly opposite one another, but this possibility was not recognized in the lot description provided in the previous auction appearance. The only other notable mark is a depression at the left foot of the I in VI. The date and VI denomination are bold and most of the legend is easily readable. The obverse (tree side) was struck a bit off center to K-11 (as always with this variety) while the reverse is off center only slightly to K-6. Frosty light bluish steel and silvery gray. A decent if imperfect example of the "Pellets at Trunk" type. Listed on page 39 in the "Redbook." Weight 31.4 grains.
Estimated Value $750-UP.
